The Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) has been involved in Leadership Development, Capacity Building, Enterprise Development and Economic Empowerment since 1988. In addition to training, ALF has conducted research in various fields of development and policy design at the national, regional, and continental levels, actively engaging with policymakers and leadership at all levels.Role Summary
The Asset and Financial Controls Officer will work closely with the Senior Manager, FAAM, to provide technical support to Finance and Administrative expertise required for the management of donor-funded or other projects of the Foundation to ensure the complete accuracy of all financial transactions from budget preparation to project closure. The role also involves managing employee and asset records for smooth operational efficiency
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the SAGE Accounting Software to input and track financial transactions for projects and other activities of ALFs.
- Provide support in assuring adherence to controls and processes and, aligning with donors’ and partners’ policies and guidelinesto ensure adequate fund management and high-quality financial information
- Maintain and operate assets register by ensuring proper recording of acquisition, allocation and disposal of assets and depreciation policy of ALF.
- Ensure regular review of posted financial transactions and effect required adjustments
- Reconcile all accounts regularly and submit for accuracy assurance;
- Provide support in the preparation and or vetting of budgets; Prepare and submit financial statements monthly and ensure all transactions are supported by adequate documentation
- Involve in interaction with External Auditors, regulatory authorities and other vendors of the foundation on financial matters.
- Assist in the supervision of other activities of the department
- Ensures teamwork within the department and with other departments
- Produce and submit reports as may be required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting or financial functions within an NGO.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), especially Excel.
- Demonstrated expertise in using Sage Accounting Software.
- Familiarity with NGO accounting standards and financial documentation practices.
- A high level of accuracy and the ability to keep detailed file notes.
- Must be capable of interpreting financial information
- Excellent report-writing and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in English with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Methodical reasoning and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage stress and responsibilities effectively.
- Team-oriented with a focus on organizational goals
