Study on the Impact of Energy Price
increases on household’s Standard of Living in Nigeria
As part of their policy advocacy and
support brief, the Africa Leadership Forum and the Centre for
Democracy and Development are conducting a study on the impact of
“Energy Price Increases on Households Standard of Living”.
The intent of the study is to determine
whether there are still significant inter- and intra zonal
misalignment of products prices in the six geo-political zones of
Nigeria, and estimate on the product-by product basis, the degree of
inter- and intra zonal price misalignment between 1999 and 2004 in
absolute and relative terms. The study also seeks to determine the
quantitative and qualitative impact of price changes on standard of
living and material welfare of households between 1999 and 2004 in the
geo-political zones and analyze the possible future of price
deregulation of energy products on standard of living of Nigerians
with a view to recommending policy options and a scheme of
compensation for the consumers welfare losses due to price
adjustments.
A final report will fed into a policy
dialogue of Policy Experts to be organized by the ALF and CDD with the
support of the DFID. For more information on the research, please
contact, Dr. Olumide Ajayi on
