ALF Legislative Internship Programme

2007 - 2009

The Legislative Internship Programme (LIP) is a programme of the ALF Parliamentary Support Institute aimed at consolidating and institutionalizing the norms and principles of liberal democracy in Nigeria. The programme is specifically designed to provide interested alumni of ALF Democratic Leadership Training Workshop (DLTW) and other Nigerian young men and women an opportunity to acquaint themselves with parliamentary norms and processes with a view to encouraging them to take – up parliamentary career or work as members of parliamentary support staff. more

Ayodele Aderinwale, Executive Director of the Africa Leadership Forum receives National Honour

For his selfless efforts and enthusiasm at hard-work and inputs to national and regional development, Mr. Ayodele Aderinwale, was on the 20th December conferred with the Nigerian National Honour, Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR).

The Honour was conferred on him by President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria. The Nigerian National Honours are a set of orders and decorations conferred upon Nigerians and friends of Nigeria.

The Honours were instituted by the National Honors Act no. 5 of 1964, during the First Republic to honour Nigerians from all walks of life, who have rendered special and outstanding services in their calling, to the benefit and progress of the nation.

We congratulate Mr. Aderinwale for the achievement and wish him the very best in all his undertakings.


DLTW 2007 (Recruitment in Progress)

 

ALF in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nigeria will be organizing in 2007, a series of training workshops for Nigerians in the public and private sectors, youth organizations, media, labour organizations, NGOs as well as community leaders.

The objectives of these workshops among others are to

  • Provide opportunity for inter-political networks and linkages towards collaboration at different levels.

  • Enhance and to sharpen participants leadership skills in participatory democracy and governance. for more information on applications and

The first of such workshops for young females media practitioners will hold between 5th and 10 February 2007. Application deadline is 18 January 2007. ALF/UNDP concludes Sub-Regional Consultative Meetings on the ECOSOCC, the APRM and the MDGs

The sub-regional consultative meetings organized by the Africa Leadership Forum, in collaboration with the UNDP, Regional Bureau for Africa, New York for African CSOs on ECOSOCC, APRM and the MDGs came to a conclusion with the final regional meeting in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on the 8th - 10th December 2006.

The meeting in Addis will among others, reviewed all the inputs and contributions of civil society organizations that participated in the sub-regional conferences,  and produced a clear and strategic roadmap to engage the APRM and the MDGS.

The Africa Leadership Forum (ALF) in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC) is hosting a Tri-regional (North, Central and West Africa) Consultative Workshop on enhancing AU-CSO collaboration on Peace and Security Agenda at Bolingo Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria, from 5-7 April 2006.

 The goal of the Workshop is to deliberate on practical and effective means of building sustainable working relationship between the AU and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) in the field of peace and security, at all levels in both Africa and the Diaspora and to develop guidelines for such a relationship. click here for more


DLTW 2005 - 2006 concluded!

We are happy to inform all our partners, associates and general public that the Democratic Leadership Training Workshops, which had over 700 hundred participants finally been concluded. The next series of trainings would be announced on this websites, as well as on the official websites of our partners and some local and international media outfits. interested participants are requested to check this site from time to time for more information.

As part of its effort at developing and sustaining leadership capabilities and skills for Africa, the Africa Leadership Forum (ALF) in 1998, Accra Ghana, instituted the Democratic Leadership Training Workshop (DLTW) for youngLeaders. Six years on, the ALF has graduated over 700 participants. Some of whom have assumed critical positions of authority in their countries and are leading their countries in different spheres.  

In 2004, the Africa Leadership Forum is inaugurated the first of 18 workshops to train, between (2004 – 2006) over 600 young adults, mostly professionals, members of Community Based Organizations, Non Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Students, private and public sector officers who have shown demonstrable leadership qualities and are in various positions of influence and authority in their respective space of operation and sphere of influence. 

The main goal of the DLTW is to promote democratic leadership ideals among the successor generation by building their capacity to demand and practice good governance towards institutionalizing the norms and principles of liberal democracy in Nigerian and Africa.

ALF PARLIAMENTARY SUPPORT PROJECT (PSP) Target Audience: Support Staff of National and State Assemblies

As part of its overall support to development of sustainable democratic institutions in Nigeria, the Africa Leadership Forum (ALF), in collaboration with the UNDP – Nigeria is organising a series of five (5) - day capacity building programme designed to improve the technical capacity of support staff of the National and State Houses of Assembly throughout Nigeria. 

 

Objective of Workshop

  • Provide administrative, research and other technical skills that would enhance and expose legislative support staff to best practices in legislation and functional networking frameworks

Technical Workshop on the Implementation of the African Peer Review Process in Nigeria (meeting concluded)

As a follow-up to the six sensitization workshops organized for Nigerian civil society stakeholders in the six political regions of Nigeria, the Africa Leadership is organizing a series of workshops on the implementation of the APR process in Nigeria. The workshops have been designed to increase the level of interpretative and structured understanding and overall technical competence of the key stakeholders in the implementation the APR process in Nigeria. click here for more information


Study on the Impact of Energy Price increases on household’s Standard of Living in Nigeria 

As part of their policy advocacy and support brief, the Africa Leadership Forum and the Centre for Democracy and Development are conducting a study on the impact of “Energy Price Increases on Households Standard of Living”.

The intent of the study is to determine whether there are still significant inter- and intra zonal misalignment of products prices in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, and estimate on the product-by product basis, the degree of inter- and intra zonal price misalignment between 1999 and 2004 in absolute and relative terms. The study also seeks to determine the quantitative and qualitative impact of price changes on standard of living and material welfare of households between 1999 and 2004 in the geo-political zones and analyze the possible future of price deregulation of energy products on standard of living of Nigerians with a view to recommending policy options and a scheme of compensation for the consumers welfare losses due to price adjustments.

A final report will fed into a policy dialogue of Policy Experts to be organized by the ALF and CDD with the support of the DFID. For more information on the research, please contact, Dr. Olumide Ajayi on ajayi@africaleadership.org
