Democratic Leadership Training Workshop - Secondary School Teachers

The Africa Leadership Forum in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Nigeria, has been organizing since 2007, series of Democratic Leadership Training Workshops for young Nigerians ages 18-40 years. This particularedition of the workshop training is targeted towards Secondary Schools’ TEACHERS from both public and private schools. As in the past, the primary objectives of these workshops among others are to:
- Enhance and sharpen participant’s leadership skills in participatory democracy and governance
- Provide opportunity for inter-political networks and linkages towards positive collaboration at both lateral and vertical levels

Method of Application
A two-page resume stating place of residence, your local government, state of origin, and your previous leadership position(s) and experience(s). A statement of his/her understanding of leadership and what you hope to gain from the workshop. A letter of endorsement will be required from the Head of your School stating you will be given opportunity to implement and deploy skills and lessons learnt from the workshop within the school community. Applications should be forwarded in Ms-word format as an attachment by e-mail to democraticleadership@africaleadership.org or imoleayo@africaleadership.org

Democratic Leadership Training Workshop - Female Medical Doctors

The DLTW - Female Medical Doctors Group was concluded successfully on the 30th of May 2009 at the ALF International Conference Centre, Ota - Ogun State. The Training was attended by 43 Female Medical Practitioners from both Public and Private Health Instituitons representing all the Six Geo-political zones of the country.

The workshop exposed participants to trainings on the principles and styles of leadership, ethics and professionalism, workings of a Democratic government, lobby and advocacy etc while also assisting in identifying innate leadership traits in participants through simulation exercises and role plays.

The Female Medical Doctors Group formed a network amongst themselves under the name "The Female Doctors Leadership Initiative". The network amonsgt other things will be the platform to execute the Group's Action Plan developed after the training. The Group Action Plan aims to vigorously conscientize Medical practtioners on the need to imbibe standard work ethics and proffesionalism.

ALF receives HP GET-IT Grant - (Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT)

As part of ALF’s commitment towards constant qualitative capacity building of young people towards acquiring basic requisite leadership skills, micro-enterpise development and basic business management skills with a sharpened IT-edge, the Africa Leadership Forum has been selected has a recipient of the HP GET-IT Grant.

GET-IT (Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT) is one of HP’s flagship social investment initiatives and helps young unemployed people and graduates – aged 16 to 25 – acquire the business and IT skills to enter professional life or to create their own businesses. The GET-IT training initiative operates in 25 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and comprises a network of 70 GET-IT training centers. Initiated by HP, the programme is run in collaboration with the Micro-Enterprise Acceleration Institute (MEA-I) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Africa.GET-IT’s mission is to help young people master the dynamics of using of information technology in very small businesses.

ALF is expected to train about 5000 young un- or underemployed people and graduates aged 16 -25 to acquire the business and IT skills to enter professional life or to start their own businesses. The project is expected to kick-off fully before the end of the year.

Result of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Inaugural Africa-wide Essay Competition

The 1st Africa Wide Essay Competition on “Young people’s Perception of Human Security in Africa” organised for the Centre for Human Security of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library by the Africa Leadership Forum officially came to a close at the Prize Presentation Ceremony held at the Presidential Library Complex on the 5th of March 2009.

Summary Report of Baseline and Quarterly Socio-economic Survey of EDC Trainees

Prior to the take-off of EDC Lagos, a baseline survey was conducted in April/May 2009 in each of the six states (Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states) of Southwest Nigeria which serves as the scope of EDC programme. This survey was designed to capture the status report on the state of unemployment, vocational skills, and entrepreneurship development programmes in the southwestern region of Nigeria.

ALF Legislative Internship Programme

2007 - 2009

The Legislative Internship Programme (LIP) is a programme of the ALF Parliamentary Support Institute aimed at consolidating and institutionalizing the norms and principles of liberal democracy in Nigeria. The programme is specifically destic Leigned to provide interested alumni of ALF Democraadership Training Workshop (DLTW) and other Nigerian young men and women an opportunity to acquaint themselves with parliamentary norms and processes with a view to encouraging them to take – up parliamentary career or work as members of parliamentary support staff. more .......

 

Ayodele Aderinwale, Executive Director of the Africa Leadership Forum receivesNational Honour

For his selfless efforts and enthusiasm at hard-work and inputs to national and regional development, Mr. Ayodele Aderinwale, was on the 20th December conferred with the Nigerian National Honour, Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR).

The Honour was conferred on him by the former President of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. The Nigerian National Honours are a set of orders and decorations conferred upon Nigerians and friends of Nigeria.

The Honours were instituted by the National Honors Act no. 5 of 1964, during the First Republic to honour Nigerians from all walks of life, who have rendered special and outstanding services in their calling, to the benefit and progress of the nation.

We congratulate Mr. Aderinwale for the achievement and wish him the very best in all his undertakings.

 

 

ALF/UNDP Concludes Sub-Regional Consultative Meetings on the ECOSOCC, the APRM and the MDGs

The sub-regional consultative meetings organized by the Africa Leadership Forum, in collaboration with the UNDP, Regional Bureau for Africa, New York for African CSOs on ECOSOCC, APRM and the MDGs came to a conclusion with the final regional meeting in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on the 8th - 10th December 2006.

The meeting in Addis was among others, reviewed all the inputs and contributions of civil society organizations that participated in the sub-regional conferences,  and produced a clear and strategic roadmap to engage the APRM and the MDGS.
