The ALF Foundation and Council Members

The Africa Leadership Foundation is a legal entity registered in Nigeria as a non-profit organisation with the responsibility of offering support to the Forum. Two trustees give advice on the policies and programmes of the Foundation's legal functions. An Africa Leadership Foundation Inc. is also registered in New York, U.S.A. as a not-for-profit organisation. Directors of the Africa Leadership Foundation Inc.

ALF was structured in such a way that it would fill the void created by the absence of a veritable body for training Africa's potential leaders. The convening of periodic conferences, workshops seminars and colloquia on a broad spectrum of themes is central to ALF's mission. The themes are specially selected on the basis of their relevance to the problems of Africa's faltering development. The rationale behind this is to create a congenial atmosphere for the training of an enlightened and competent generation of African leaders well groomed to chart a new course which will lead the continent out of its current quagmire into the third millennium and beyond.

Furthermore, ALF conferences and seminars are intended to foster knowledge and a very sharp consciousness among the new generation of African leaders and to make them develop the culture of transparency and dedication to duty.

To develop on a continuous basic leadership capabilities in Africa with the primary objective of improving output in government, parliament, business and civil society and thus create the conditions conducive to the development of the continent in an environment of peace, stability and security.

The main underpinning of ALF's activities is the recognition of the imperative of development and improving the leadership capacity in Africa in order to meet the mounting challenges of:

1. Sustaining the process of political liberalisation in Africa.
2. Consolidating the capacity of civil society in the area of management.
3. Empowerment of business through the teaching of entrepreneurial skills with a view to ensuring economic transformation.

Council of Conveners

This council, as its name suggests, offers the relevant political guidance and leadership to the Forum. It holds an annual meeting with the executive committee and in line with its mandate, evaluates the activities of the Forum. Based on this, committee review changes to be effected in all or specific areas of the Forum's operations.
